A Dime

A Dime

You give me a dime

I’ll sell you a rhyme

And for your lady sing it in a chime

For what is the worth of a dime

If it can not for your lady buy

A chiming rhyme for love

To last a long long time

Dragonfly Wings

 Dragonfly Wings

Into this world was he born
And in this earth his body left
But by his spirit, lingers
To fill our hears with bliss

And lest we should forget
He sends us whispers on
Dragonfly wings

His name was Curtis Taylor Brown
And he was the only person you’d
Never see lose his smile to a frown

And lest we should forget
He sends us hints on
Dragonfly wings

His laughter penetrated walls of brick
And was a beacon to those hearts
Less fortunate

And lest we should forget
He sends us clues on
Dragonfly wings

Husband, Brother, Father, Son, aside from those
He can not be categorized in “one”
For Curtis was a one-of-a-kind-guy
And now in death his spirit is our guide

And lest we should forget
He sends us reminders of his love on
Dragonfly wings

I wrote this poem in about half an hour, if even that. I know I was inspired. Since my uncle passed away dragonflies have been a comfort to our family- we see them as his message to us from the other side.

A Welcome

  • Welcome to my blog of random writings! As you have found your way here I hope that you will stay and read a little.

  • The purpose of me starting this blog is to mainly start writing and keep up with it. This last year has been quite a year and with it, I have found myself putting pen to paper A LOT trying to work out feeling and ideas.

  • A bit of a background: I’ve enjoyed writing during my life and have written a little here and there for various reasons, but this last year I was told it was something I needed to work on because I “have a talent” -as some members of my family have put it. And as I am not one to let a possible talent go by without giving it a chance I’ve kind of been giving it a try. But what really gave me the push for this blog and “publishing” my words for unknown eyes to read, was that the poet in my family passed away very suddenly. My uncle, aside from just being the best guy I’ll probably ever know, was a poet. He just had a way of putting words on paper that opened you up, gave you a better glimpse at him, all while making everything more mysterious and magical. At his funeral his siblings read his poetry- one of the most beautiful and sad things I’ve ever experienced. A couple months after my uncle passed I was thinking about him and all of the sudden wrote two poems honestly out of no where! I know I was inspired to write them and part of me feels like it is now a calling. Like, I need to keep the art alive for my uncle. Maybe that sounds like a silly idea, but I think it is true. Never at any other time in my life have I had so many ideas to write like I do now.

  • These writings that will appear on this blog will very, greatly! They will probably range from journal-like entries, poems, essays and hopefully, short stories. I’ve just started college so some may be class assignments others may be my venting or past writings that I want to share. (Please feel free to make spelling and grammar corrections.) And now and then I might just come across some words that just hit home and I’ll share those as well.
